NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was in action today as they were victorious over Walsh University, 8-1.
The game started out as a defensive battle as the first eight minutes were scoreless. The Storm broke the scoring drought with just over seven minutes remaining in the quarter when Patrick Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy) scored an unassisted goal and gave the Storm a 1-0 lead. Lake Erie held the Cavaliers scoreless in the first quarter and took a 1-0 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was even as the Storm maintained their one goal advantage for the majority of the quarter. Late in the second quarter Walsh tied the game with a goal and the teams entered the half deadlocked at 1 goal apiece.
Lake Erie came out of the locker room ready to play as they scored a goal in the first minute of the third quarter when Nicholas Tschetter (Hilton, N.Y. / Aquanis Institute) found the back of the net off a feed from Edmund Renaud (Carlisle, Ont. / Waterdown District / Pfeiffer). Three minutes later Lake Erie added to their lead when James Chadwick (Amherst, N.Y. / Amherst Central) scored an unassisted goal and provided the Storm with 3-1 edge. After a 10 minute scoreless stretch the Storm made the lead 4-1 when Brandon Donohue (South Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon St. Jude) scored an unassisted goal with 36 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Lake Erie's momentum carried over to the fourth quarter as Nathan Quinn (Hamburg, N.Y. / Bishop Timon St. Jude) found the back of the net off a pass from Renaud, to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Storm. Lake Erie added a man up goal with eight minutes remaining in the game as Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) scored. Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) put the game out of reach as he scored back to back goals for the Storm. The goals were assisted by Tschetter and Chadwick, and gave the Storm an 8-1 lead. Lake Erie held on to win 8-1.
Ward led the offense for the Storm as he had a pair of goals, and three groundballs. Tschetter pitched in with a goal, an assist, and four groundballs for Lake Erie.
In net for the Storm was Connor Sharkey (Cambridge, Ont. / Jacob Hespeler / Pfieffer), he faced 23 shots, seven of which were on goal, made six saves, and allowed only one goal.
Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (April 1) when they travel to take on Alderson-Broaduss.
