Storm Dominates Rollins

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was in action today (March 10) as they defeated Rollins, 16-4.

The Storm opened the scoring in the first quarter when Lucas Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) gave Lake Erie a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game.  The Tars answered with back to back goals, and took a 2-1 edge with just under seven minutes remaining in the quarter.  The Storm tied the game when Shafer scored his second goal of the game with under a minute remaining in the first quarter. 

The Storm scored the opening goal of the second quarter and regained a 3-2 edge when Shafer found the back of the net for his third goal of the game.  The Storm tacked on a second straight goal when Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) scored off a bounce pass from Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ont. / Waterdown District / Pfeiffer) with just under eight minutes remaining in the half.  Three minutes later Bishop scored his second goal of the game off a feed from Nicholas Tschetter (Hilton, N.Y. / Aquanis Institute).  Lake Erie continued their strong play when Shafer found the back of the net off a feed from Tschetter, to make the score 6-2 with under a minute remaining in the half.  The Storm tacked on a goal with four seconds remaining in the half when Bishop scored off a feed from Renaud, to give the Storm a 7-2 edge at the intermission.  The Storm defense allowed Lake Erie to pull away as they shut out the Tars in the second quarter.    

The Storm came out of the locker ready to play as they scored six straight goals throughout the third quarter to take a 13-2 advantage.  Renaud scored the first goal of the second half off an assist from Brandon Donohue (South Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon St. Jude).  The next five goals were all unassisted as they were scored by Bishop, James Chadwick (Amherst, N.Y. / Amherst Central), Patrick Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy), Shafer, and John Kezerian (Melrose, Mass. / Malden Catholic).  The Storm entered the fourth quarter ahead 13-2, as the defense held Rollins scoreless for the second straight quarter.   

The Tars cut into the Storm lead with a goal to open the fourth quarter.  Three minutes later the Storm responded with a goal from Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) off an assist from Chadwick.  The Tars answered 40 seconds later with a goal of their own.  Lake Erie ended the game with back to back goals by Tim Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy), and Bishop, and the Storm won 16-4.

The Storm was led by Shafer as he had five goals, and an assist in the game.  Bishop added to the Storm offense with five goals.  Renaud pitched in with a pair of assists and a goal in the game.  Donohue led the Storm defense as he had three caused turnovers, and picked up three ground balls.         

Connor Sharkey (Cambridge, Ont. / Jacob Hespeler / Pfieffer) was in net for the Storm as he faced 29 shots, 14 of which were on goal, and made nine saves. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (March 14) when they host Walsh, with the game set to start at 7 p.m.
