(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – A dominant second quarter helped Lake Erie cruise by Walsh 19-7 for its first win of the season Wednesday evening at Vasco Field. The Storm (1-6, 1-1) scored nine goals in the frame to pull away from and remain unbeaten against the Cavaliers (1-7, 1-1).
It didn't take long for the offense to get churning as Micah Daigle, Matt Cromie, Brandon Sheedy, and Patrick Bay all found the back of the net in the opening five minutes of the game. Walsh rallied for the next three goals, but the Green and White answered with 14 of the next 15 scores in a run that lasted until two minutes left in the third.
The offense was by committee as well with 11 different players scoring goals. Tim Bay led the charge with four goals and an assist for five points on the day. His brother Patrick also scored five points on two goals and three assists. Daigle joined Tim with a hat trick as well in the game.
Bret Swan was nearly unbeatable in the circle once again as he won 18-of-21 face-offs on the day. He picked up 12 ground balls as a result from it to easily score game-high honors in the category. Swan has now won 94-of-104 face-offs in his last four games and ranks fifth in the nation in ground balls per game.
Conor Sharkey played the full game in goal and made eight saves on the night. He faced a total of 25 shots.
Kevin McMahon led the Cavaliers with a pair of goals.
The Storm is back in action at home a week from today when they host Indianapolis. Face-off is set for high noon at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
