Men’s Soccer’s Carreira Leads DII in Saves

Entering the week of October 18th, Lake Erie College sophomore goalkeeper Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont/ Dante Alighieri Academy) is the national leader in Division II with 136 saves on the season.  His 9.07 saves per game rank tied for the top spot with Jared Jacobs of Colorado Christian.

The complete rankings can be found at

Carreira's 136 stops are second in team history for saves in a season behind Mike Hughes' 215 saves in 1996.  As just a sophomore, he is already third on the Lake Erie career list with 192 stops.

Carreria has put forth several big performances in goal this season, none better than his shutout against Seton Hill on Oct. 7 in a scoreless tie.  In 110 minutes of action, the sophomore faced 33 shots and made a season-high 18 saves.  Carreira, who has played every minute in goal for Lake Erie this season, has seven games with at least 11 stops.

The Storm has three games to play on the season, all of which are home GLIAC contests.  Their next game is Sunday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. against Ohio Dominican University.
