Men’s Soccer Starts GLIAC Play Right With 2-0 Win Over Findlay

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – It took the Lake Erie College men's soccer team (2-1, 1-0 GLIAC) just three matches under first year Head Coach Davie Carmichael to surpass last season's win total as it defeated the University of Findlay, (0-3, 0-1 GLIAC), 2-0, on the turf at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville, Ohio.

The match was the first shutout of the season for Storm junior goalkeeper Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) Carreira faced seven shots and made two saves and several other nice plays during the contest.

Lake Erie took control early on a beautifully executed piece in the 16th minute.  A throw-in from sophomore transfer Stewart Bath (Billingham, England/Averett University) was headed home by fellow sophomore transfer James Grogan (Leeds, England/Averett University) for the game's first goal.  The Storm dominated possession in the half and had a 14-2 advantage in shot attempts but the match stayed 1-0 at intermission.

The Green and White came out of the locker room in a flurry as just 4:16 into the second half, sophomore midfielder Nathan Bias (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) scored his third goal in as many games as junior transfer Randy Danso (Toronto, Canada/North Count Community College) found him with a cross.  Lake Erie made a key team save in the 69th minute on a shot by Findlay's Alex Oliver and the Oilers did not seriously threaten the rest of the way.

The Storm held a 29-7 advantage in shots while Findlay had four corner kicks to Lake Erie's three.

Lake Erie gets back in action on Sunday as it faces GLIAC power Tiffin University with first touch slatted for 2:00 p.m.
