PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Conference Leading Saginaw Valley State University (9-2-2, 5-2-1 GLIAC) put up three tallies in the games first 15 minutes and put the match out of reach in a hurry in a 5-1 win over Lake Erie College (5-6-2, 3-3-2 GLIAC) in an important matchup at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

One highlight to the defeat for Lake Erie was six saves by senior Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy), giving him 280 for his career and setting a new school record.

Saginaw Valley got on the board 9:57 into the contest as a ball which took several deflections and ended up on the foot of Zach Walega who scored from 15 yards out.  At 13:54, the Cardinals extended the lead to 2-0 as Zach Myers hit Walega in stride on a long, straight on pass ahead setting up a 2-0 on opportunity as Walega passed to Tyler Channell for the easy goal.  The third score came less than a minute later as a free kick from 30 yards out as Zach Minor hit Lachlan Savage for the goal.

The Cardinals added to their advantage in the 61st minute on a goal from Conor Reaume.  The Storm got on the board at 62:58 as sophomore Danny Eborall (Sheffield, England/Averett University) was able to draw a penalty inside the box.  Classmate Stewart Bath (Billingham, England/Averett University) came on to finish the goal by converting the penalty kick for his first career goal.  Savage closed the scoring in the 67th minute on another breakaway goal taking in the pass from Channell.

SVSU held a 15-9 advantage in shots in the contest.

The Storm plays their final home contest of the season Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. start against Northwood University.  Lake Erie will honor its three senior prior to the contest.
