Tiffin's Penalty Kick Leaves Men's Soccer Point Shy Of Playoffs

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – A Tiffin University penalty kick in the 60th minute was the difference in a 1-0 win over Lake Erie College  in Tiffin, Ohio to close the Storm's season.

The win gave Tiffin 18 points in GLIAC play, edging the Storm by a single point in what was turned into an elimination game on the final day of the regular season for both teams.

The Storm finished the season .500 in both overall and in GLIAC play, going 8-8-2 overall and 5-5-2 in GLIAC play.  It was by far Lake Erie's most successful season in its fourth year as a member of NCAA Division II.

In goal for Lake Erie, senior Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made seven saves while not allowing a goal during normal play.

The totals were nearly identical on both sides with both teams attempting 15 shots and committing 12 penalties.

The first half was scoreless the entire way with Carreira making five stops and Tiffin holding a slight 9-8 edge in shots.

It was in the 60th minute when the Dragons drew a foul in the box allowing Ashton Campbell to score the match's lone goal.  Lake Erie began to try to push forward but was unable to find the equalizer as its final attempt by junior Randy Danso (Toronto, Canada/North Count Community College) in the match's last seconds sailed high.
