CANTON, Ohio— The Lake Erie College men's soccer team was unable to overcome a 2-0 first-half Malone University lead, falling to the Pioneers 2-1 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest Friday (Oct. 4).

Josh Abend scored the first goal of the game for the Pioneers off a rebound from his own to give Malone a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.  Albend scored his second goal of the match 24 minutes later on a breakaway to increase the Pioneers lead to two at the half.

The Storm got on the board late in the 86th minute when Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scotio) redirected a Stewart Bath (Billingham, England/Billingham Campus School/Averett University) shot for his first goal of the season but it was not enough to overcome Malone's lead.

Storm goalkeeper Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pikering) made three saves in net for the Storm while his Malone counterpart Felipe Monteiro made six.

The Storm return to action next Friday (Oct. 11), hosting GLIAC foe University of Findlay.
