PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- For the third time this season, the Storm were able to strike in overtime, picking up a 1-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win over the University of Findlay Friday evening (Oct. 11).
Though the Storm outshot the Oilers 11-4 in the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net. Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ont./St. Mary Catholic) led the Storm offensive front with three shots in the first-half and three different players had two attempts. Goalkeeper Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pikering) made one save in net.
The Storm (5-4-1, 4-4 GLIAC) continued to apply offensive pressure in the second half but were still unable to break through the Oiler's (3-7-1, 4-4 GLIAC) defense.
The offensive finally paid off for the Storm in overtime. Less than two minutes in, Stuart Campbell (Glassgow, Scotland/Glassgow Academy) took a pass from Alfred Majer (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and rocketed it past Findlay goalkeeper Joe McClanahan to give the Storm the overtime victory.
Ljuebvski finished the game with three saves for his second shutout of the season. For the match, the Storm owned a 20-10 advantage in shots.
With the win, Lake Erie improved to 3-0-1 on the season in overtime games.
The Storm next travel to Ohio Dominican University Sunday (Oct. 13) for a key conference contest.
