MIDLAND, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team notched their fifth overtime win on the season Sunday (Oct. 20), defeating Northwood University, 1-0, in a pivotal Great Lakes Intercollegaite Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.
The Storm (6-5-2, 5-5-1 GLIAC) improved to 5-0-2 on the season in games that extend over 90 minutes and their second 1-0 overtime victory over Northwood this season.
The Timberwolves applied the offensive pressure through regulation, oushooting the Storm 20-5 but once again, Storm goalkeeper Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pikering) had another brillant game, keeping Northwood off the board while making six saves in the game.
Northwood recorded the first three shots of the extra session but were held from victory with two saves by Ljubevski.
The Storm only need one shot in the extra session for the win. Seven minutes into the overtime, a rocket cross from Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ont./St. Mary Catholic) found Nolyn Do Nascimento (Ajax, Ont./Pickerington), six yards out from net, who buried it in the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Ljubevski recorded his fifth shutout of the season.
The Storm return home Wednesday (Oct. 23) to host Tiffin University in a key GLIAC match.
