PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College men's soccer's Cory Bucur (Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) and wrestling's Jared Merritt (Cranesville, Pa./Northwestern) have been selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis, Indiana June 5-8. The two members of the Storm community will join over 200 student athletes from around the country attending the event.
The NCAA Career in Sports Forum brings career leaders together to discuss their professional career paths and to enlighten student-athletes on career choices. Topics for discussion include skills sets needed to perform at the highest level; nontraditional careers in athletics; best practices in athletics administration; personal and professional branding and others. There are also small-group sessions to discuss key issues and develop leadership roles. The student-athletes will also engage in dialogue with senior administrators from the NCAA national office and will have a formal networking dinner with NCAA administrators.
Merritt, a recent Lake Erie graduate, has served as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the past three years. He was an inaugural member of the Storm's wrestling team, earning two GLIAC All-Academic Excellence and one GLIAC All-Academic Team selections.
Bucur, entering his senior year at Lake Erie, has played on the Storm's soccer team the past three seasons. He is a two-time All-GLIAC Academic Excellence Team selection.
"This is a great honor for them," said Lake Erie College Assistant Athletic Director for Sport Operations Lisa Liotta. "They will learn essential skills for careers in athletics and it presents great networking opportunities as well."
