COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's soccer team was victorious over Ohio Dominican today (October 31st), 6-0. With the win the Storm have won 8 straight and are now 11-4-2 overall and 9-3-2 in conference play, and the Panthers fall to 7-11 overall and 5-9 in the conference.
The Storm opened the scoring in the 14th minute when junior defender Joseph Coombs (Knutsford, England / Holmes Chapel Sixth Form) headed the corner by senior midfielder Alfred Majer (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) into the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
Majer increased the lead on a penalty kick in the 17th minute to give the Storm a 2-0 advantage.
Majer found the back of the net for a second time 10 minutes later off of an assist by junior midfielder Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto), to make the score 3-0.
Lake Erie continued to dominate the match when Coombs scored his second of the night off of an assist by Gibson with 15 minutes to play in the first half.
Sophomore defender Kenneth Kolke (Stow, Ohio / Stow-Munroe Falls) found the back of the net with a minute to play in the half off of an assist by Coombs and gave the Storm a 5-0 advantage.
Three minutes into the second half senior forward Cory Bucur (Bedford, Ohio / St. Peter Chanel) scored an unassisted goal to increase the Lake Erie lead to 6-0.
In net for the Storm was Nicholas Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome / Queens)he faced 2 total shots, none of which were on goal, made no saves, and allowed zero goals.
