BAY CITY, Mich.—Lake Erie College soccer players Joseph Coombs (Knutsford, England/Holmes Chapel Sixth Form) and Alfred Majer (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week honors for their performance against Alderson Broaddus University and Ohio Dominican University last week.
The Storm defeated Alderson Broaddus University 3-1 Wednesday (Oct. 29) and GLIAC foe Ohio Dominican University 6-0 on Friday (Oct. 31).
Against Alderson Broaddus, Coombs anchored the Storm's back line, allowing just seven total shots and only three on goal. The Storm defense was even more impressive against Ohio Dominican, allowing only five shots- none of which were on target. In addition to his defensive prowess, Coombs added two goals and an assist against Ohio Dominican. On the season, Coombs has accumulated three goals.
This is the second time this season that Coombs has earned this honor.
Majer ended the week with two goals and two assists. He picked up an assist in the Storm's win over Alderson Broaddus. In the Storm's victory over Ohio Dominican, Majer scored two goals and assisted on one more. On the season, Majer has six goals and four assists.
This is the second time in his career that Majer has earned the honor.
The Storm is back in action Friday (Nov. 7) as they face Northwood University in the semifinals of the GLIAC Championships hosted by Tiffin University.
