PAINESVILLE, Ohio- Three members of the Lake Erie College soccer team earned spots on the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Men's All-Midwest Region team.
Junior defender Joseph Coombs (Knutsford, England/Holmes Chapel Sixth Form) led the way for the Storm, earning a spot on the Second-Team. Coombs was also a member of the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and Daktronics All-Region Second-Team. Coombs earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this year as well as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Week honor. He helped anchor a Storm defense that allowed only .7 goals a game while recording eight shutouts. Offensively, Coombs had seven points on three goals and an assist, including game-winning goals against the University of Findlay and Ohio Dominican University. In the game against Ohio Dominican, Coombs tallied two goals and an assist.
Do Nascimento was named to the All-GLIAC Second-Team earlier this year. He served as the quarterback of the Storm's midfield, filtering the ball with ease while getting around defenders with fancy footwork. Do Nascimento appeared in 15 games, starting in 14 of them.
Junior Novak previously earned All-GLIAC First-Team honors this season. A solid competitor for the Storm throughout the year, Novak scored two goals and assisted on one more. He had the game winning goal on a penalty shot against Saginaw Valley State University on Oct. 17.
