PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's soccer team was victorious today over Malone University, 3-0. With the win the Storm improves to 6-7-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the conference, and with the loss the Pioneers fall to 3-10-1 overall and 3-8-1 in conference play.
The first half was a scoreless battle in which both teams had chances to score. The Storm outshot the Pioneers 3-1 and also had the only corner kick in the first half.
The Storm jumped to a 1-0 lead early in the second half when Joseph Munaretto (Wickliffe, Ohio / Riverside) found the back of the net off of a rebound from an Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ont. / St. Mary Catholic) shot. Two minutes later Lake Erie added to the lead when Novak found the back of the net off of an assist by Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto), to give the Storm a 2-0 advantage. The Storm added a late insurance goal when Stuart Campbell (Glassgow, Scotland / Glassgow Academy) scored off of an assist by Andrew Bucur (Bedford, Ohio / St. Peter Chanel), to make the score 3-0 in favor of Lake Erie.
In net for the Storm was Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France / Lycee Bristol) he faced seven shots, four of which were on goal, made four saves, and allowed zero goals.
Lake Erie will be back in action Sunday (October 25th) when they travel to take on Walsh at 1 P.M.
