PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team avenged a couple of past losses with a 1-0 win over the Findlay Oilers on Sunday (Sept. 11).
Findlay swept both matches against the Storm in 2015. The Storm returned the favor with a win against the Oilers. The Storm improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC following the win.
"I was very pleased with the mindset of the players today against a scrappy University of Findlay team. Sometimes you need to grind out a win and that's exactly what the players produced this afternoon," said Storm head coach Kevin Brenner after the Storm's victory.
In the 28th minute, the Storm capitalized on an opportunity for a goal. Kenneth Kolke (Stow, Ohio/Munroe Falls) brought the ball down the right side of the field. Kolke passed it off to Samuel Mutemwa (Johannesburg, South Africa/Sandringham High School), who returned it right back to Kolke. Kolke shot from five yards out and scored his second goal of the season.
Findlay had opportunities to tie the game in the second half but the Storm defense held the Oilers scoreless on seven shots.
Hugo Faroux (Cannes, France/Lycee Bristol) completed his third shutout of the year as he made two saves on ten Oilers shots.
The Storm will travel to face GLIAC foe Ashland on Wednesday (Sept. 14).
