Storm-Oilers Ends in Scoreless Draw

FINDLAY, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team fought through tough conditions to earn a key point as the Storm battled the Findlay Oilers to a scoreless draw in two overtimes on Sunday (Oct. 9).

With the draw, Lake Erie's record is now 6-4-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the GLIAC.

"I thought today we were clearly the better team dominating all facets of the game," Storm head coach Kevin Brenner added after the game. "We were unlucky to not finish on a number of clear chances. I think the poor field conditions played a major factor in the game. The players are now excited to get back on our home field for a good portion of the remaining games. I encourage everyone to come support on Wednesday afternoon."

Lake Erie controlled the shots in the first half as they outshot the Oilers 4-1 but neither team could score.

Both teams shot the ball eight times in the second half with Findlay putting six shots on goal. Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France / Lycee Bristol) made six saves in the second half to keep the Oilers off of the scoreboard.

Throughout the two overtime periods, Lake Erie and Findlay totaled four shots each but the defenses and goalkeepers avoided the threats.

Lake Erie took 16 shots total to Findlay's 13. Miguel Espinoza (Perry, Ohio / Perry) led the Storm with five shots in the game.

Fauroux ended the game with eight saves, en route to his eighth shutout of the year. The school record is nine shutouts in a season.

Lake Erie will resume the home schedule with a matchup with the Ashland Eagles on Wednesday (Oct. 12) afternoon.
