PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team used a full team effort to defeat the Ashland University Eagles 3-0 on Wednesday (Oct. 12) afternoon at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
With the win, Lake Erie gained three key points as they improved to 7-4-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the GLIAC with five regular season games to go.
Storm head coach Kevin Brenner talked about the win, "Top performance today from the entire team, as we dominated from start to finish and got a much needed 3 points. Congratulations to the entire squad for setting the new school record for shutouts in a season. This is something we have been working on since spring season and it is starting to pay off. This is a great accomplishment considering we still have five regular season matches left. We now need to turn our attention to Friday night's match against Northern Michigan on alumni weekend."
In the 26th minute, the Storm got on the scoreboard as Samuel Mutemwa (Johannesburg, South Africa/Sandringham High School) successfully cleaned up a pass off of a corner kick. Andrew Bucur (
Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) put the corner kick into the box, where Ondrej Jelinek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Stodulky) gave it to Mutemwa to finish.
In the 69th minute, Campbell found the net as he put a Chad Bencina (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) cross past the goalkeeper.
Lake Erie took ten shots in the game, compared to Ashland's four.
Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France / Lycee Bristol) had his ninth shutout of the year, making one save.
The Storm will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 14) against Michigan Tech at home.
