PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team will open the 2017 season with two non-conference games. The Storm will commence the campaign with a road game at Roberts Wesleyan on Thursday (August 31) and the home opener versus Slippery Rock on Sunday (September 3).
Storm Report: Lake Erie begins the season under head coach Louie Rolko, who was joined the Storm in March. The Storm finished the 2016 season with an 8-7-4 overall record and a 6-6-4 record in the GLIAC with an appearance in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. Lake Erie has five scorers returning from the previous season.
"I am very excited, as are many of the guys to begin our 2017 season," said Head Coach Louie Rolko. "We have been working very hard these past few weeks on implementing a new standard and culture within the program and look forward to getting off on the right foot against Roberts Wesleyan. We have set lofty goals and expectations for ourselves, and know that Roberts Wesleyan will be a great game to test ourselves as we prepare for the GMAC."
New Conference: 2017 marks as the first season with Lake Erie College joining the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Preseason Polls: Lake Erie was voted to finish seventh out of 11 teams in the 2017 Great Midwest Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll presented by Under Armour with 60 points.
Opposition Position: Roberts Wesleyan will open the season with the Storm. Slippery Rock plays at Walsh before coming to Painesville.
Series History: Lake Erie opened the 2016 season with a 2-0 win at home with the Redhawks. The Storm currently holds a 1-1-1 record with the Rock. Lake Erie took the matchup last season with a 1-0 victory on the road.
Storm Forecast: Conference play begins for the Storm with a home game against Cedarville on September 9th.
