VIENNA, W.VA - The Lake Erie College Storm men's soccer team traveled to Ohio Valley University yesterday to take on the number two ranked team in the nation.
The Fighting Scots set the tone for the match in the fifth minute of competition with an unassisted goal by Eduardo Capote, his second goal of the 2018 season.
The match went into double overtime and Camilo Sarmiento scored the golden goal for the Fighting Scots in the 101st minute for the win over Lake Erie, 2-1.
Of the seven shots-on-goal taken by the Fighting Scots, five of them were saved by Storm sophomore Tom John.
When asked about how he felt about his teams' performance, head coach Louie Rolko said, "Last night was a great and complete team effort. We had a specific game plan heading in and I thought the team executed it incredibly well. I am very proud of the effort and resiliency from our team as they went down 1-0, only to battle back and take it to double overtime. I think it set a new standard and raised expectations for us. I am just heart-broken for the players because they put so much into and left it all out on the field, but unfortunately, it didn't go our way in the end. We have to recover quickly both physically and mentally, and get ready for the next game."
The Storm returns to the pitch on tomorrow to face in-region foe Salem International away at 3pm.
