(Painesville, Ohio) - Lake Erie will open up the 2019 season at home on Thursday when the Storm host the in-state non-conference opponent Ashland University. The match between the Storm and Eagles will begin at 7 p.m.
Starting this season tickets for all home soccer events will include a $5 fee for admission. Lake Erie student admission is free with student identification. Pass list are available for friends and families per NCAA guidelines.
Head Coach Louie Rolko will begin his third season as the leader of the Storm, assisted by Lewis Dunne and Conor Cable. Last season the Storm finished with a 9-6-4 record and fell short in overtime of the semifinals of the G-MAC tournament losing to the eventual conference champions Tiffin Dragons.
Key returners for the Storm include three All-G-MAC selections. Senior Omar Oliveros-Alverez led the Storm defense that shutout five opponents. Forward Javier Borregueruo was one goal shy of leading the team in goals. With 22 points Borregueruo was second on the team with 22 points. Senior Jonathon Carr finished his 2018 season with 10 assists and three multiple-assist games.
Ashland is coming off a season in which they were able to secure victory in the GLIAC conference championship in 2018.
The Storm and Eagles met last season when the Storm came away with a 5-3 victory. Borregueruo scored two goals out of four shots. Carr led Lake Erie with three assists in the match up with Ashland. Lake Erie has split 10 matches between Ashland all-time.
