(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Jonathon Carr scored his sixth goal and added four shots as the No. 9 Lake Erie men's soccer team tallied two goals in the match, beating Walsh 2-0 in a G-MAC showdown on Sunday afternoon at Milazzo Field in North Canton.
The Storm improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in G-MAC while dropping the Cavaliers to 6-2-1, 2-2-1 on the season.
Carr netted the first goal for Lake Erie early in the contest at the 5th minute, the goal happened when the ball was reset by Omar Oliveros-Alverez who kicked out to Tom Pearson. Pearson was able to one touch the ball to a breaking Carr who would not miss.
In the first half the Storm were able to switch the ball to both sides of the field and controlled possession as they rode the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Much like the first half the Storm looked to score early once the match restarted. Tom Akinola was able to put the ball past Cavalier goalkeeper Ethan Burawa in the 50th minute of play. Akinola's goal was his fourth of the year and was enough to give Lake Erie the 2-0 victory.
The match was evenly balanced in the score sheet with Lake Erie out-shooting Walsh 15-12,and 6-4 in corners.
Lake Erie goalkeeper Tom John had three saves in the match as he recorded another clean sheet. The Storm have now produced six shutout victories.
Sunday's match at Walsh will be the first of four conference road matches. Lake Erie will now prepare for matchup against Trevecca Nazarene on Friday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m.
