(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – Lake Erie midfielder Jonathon Carr (Sunderland, England) has been named National Player of the Week for NCAA Division II by United Soccer Coaches. The senior captain also received G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors yesterday after he scored three goals and an assist in a pair of wins against Malone and Walsh last week.
The goals were anything but easy as weather effected both games. On Wednesday in a downpour locked in a 0-0 tie late in the game, Carr found the back of the net in the 79th minute and followed up with a second moments later as Lake Erie stormed to a 5-1 win. Sunday saw Lake Erie travel to Walsh to take on another Stark County opponent. Also in the rain and this time on a grass field, Carr put the Green and White up early with a goal in the sixth minute.
His goals in both games ended up being game winners.
Carr now has a six-game scoring streak and has five goals in the past five games. He is tied with Ayden Von Essen for the team lead in goals with six and tops Lake Erie with 16 points.
Carr and the No. 6 Storm will now travel south to take on Trevecca Nazarene this Friday. Kickoff with the Trojans is set for 8 p.m.
