(CEDARVILLE, Ohio) – The perfect season ended for No. 5 Lake Erie as it was upset by Cedarville by a score of 1-0 Wednesday evening. The Storm (12-1, 8-1) were neck-and-neck with the Yellow Jackets (6-1-5, 4-1-4) throughout the game, but a free kick by the hosts in the middle of first half proved to be enough.
The kick came from about 35 yards out as Sammy Kilmann took the shot. Goalkeeper Tom John (Ahrensburg, Germany) was able to get a piece of it, but the shot still found its way through for the goal at 28:44.
Other than the lone goal, John was excellent between the pipes as he stopped six more shots-on-goal to keep the Storm in the game. On the opposite end, Lake Erie had its own opportunities and even outshot Cedarville 13-12, but only two were on target and both were saved.
The Storm will attempt to get back in the win column on Sunday when they entertain Ohio Dominican. Kickoff with the Panthers is set for 4 p.m. Coverage will be available on the Great Midwest Digital Network. Students, staff and faculty are allowed in free with their LEC Storm ID card.
