Carr Tricks As The Storm Treats OVU TO A Loss

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) - Senior Jonathon Carr (Sunderland, England) became the first Lake Erie player this season to record a hat trick and the Storm (16-1, 12-1 G-MAC) cruised to a 3-0 win over Ohio Valley (10-4-2, 7-3-2 G-MAC) in conference action on Thursday night at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

Going into the Halloween matchup No. 5 Lake Erie and Ohio Valley were both ranked first and second respectively in the G-MAC, with both teams already clinching a spot in the conference tournament.

Early on both teams looked to come out as the aggressor but neither team was able to score in the first half.

Carr's hat trick gives him his third multi goal scoring match this season and his first career hat trick. The Sunderland, England native struck in the 53rd minute of the match as Javier Borreguero (Nigran, Spain) played a ball from the near side and crossed it over to Carr who beat the Fighting Scot's keeper Steven Velez. Carr netted his second goal of the game at the 80th minute mark as senior Ameer Saade (Beirut, Lebanon) sent a through ball into the middle of the field which led to a left-footed goal by Carr.

Carr finished the hat trick less than ten minutes after scoring his second goal of the match. In the 88th minute Tom Akinola (Brampton, Ontario) made a break to the goal and quickly turned around and found an open Tom Pearson (Newport, Wales). After receiving the ball from Akinola, Pearson was able to find an open Carr who found the back of the net.

Ohio Valley held a 13-8 shot advantage in the game, while the Storm edged the Scot's 7-5 in shots on goal.

Lake Erie has extended their home winning streak to eight with one home match left in regular-season play. Junior Tom John (Ahrensburg, Germany) recorded his eleventh shutout of the season with four saves for Lake Erie, while Ohio Valley had four saves between both goalkeepers.

The No. 5 Storm will conclude the 2019 regular season at home Saturday for a matchup against Alderson Broaddus at 5:00 p.m. Lake Erie men's soccer team will be honoring the senior class on Senior Day prior to the start of the match.
