GLENVILLE, W.Va. (March 27, 2009) - Lake Erie College split in double header action on the road with Glenville State College, winning 3-1 and losing 13-7. The Storm had 10 hits on the day and took advantage of Glenville's five errors in the first game.
Lake Erie began the afternoon scoring a single run in the second, third and seventh innings to earn its fourth win of the season. The team's only extra base hit was a double by freshman first baseman Lindsey Pennell (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) to begin the second inning and spark the grean and white's scoring. Freshman Sam Ronde (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) earned her third win of the season, going the distance with four strikeouts.
In game two, Lake Erie suffered a four-run setback by its opponents in the bottom of the first and then a six-run third to fall behind 10-0. The Storm put its first runs on the board in the fourth, scoring two on just one hit - a single by Pennell. The Storm added three runs in the fifth on three hits and then two more runs in the sixth to trail 10-7. Glenville added three insurance runs in the sixth as Lake Erie went scoreless in its final at bat. The Storm totaled seven hits from seven players with freshman Kristen Robbins (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) hitting a double. Freshman Jamie Wodecki (Northfield, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) had two of the team's three RBIs.
Lake Erie (4-19) is off until Saturday when it hosts No. 15 California (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
