PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Sophomore Megan Foley (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning to lift the Lake Erie College softball team to a 5-3 win over Gannon University and a split of a pair of games Thursday (March 4) at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
Lake Erie (2-6) trailed the Golden Knights (3-4) 3-2 going into the fifth. Junior Brittany Sostre (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge) doubled and Foley scored them both with her seventh career home run, putting the Storm in front.
After the Storm tacked on an insurance run, sophomore Sam Ronde (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) closed out the Knights for her first save. Junior Lauren Malicki (Independence, Ohio/Independence) earned the win in the circle, improving to 1-2 on the season.
Earlier, the Storm fell to West Virginia Wesleyan College for the second time this week, 7-1. Lake Erie jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the first. That was the score into the fourth inning when West Virginia Wesleyan scored three times to take the lead. The Bobcats added three more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to post the final margin.
Lake Erie wraps up its spring break trip on Friday, March 5, with games against the College of Saint Rose (11 a.m.) and Northern State University (1 p.m.).
