KISSIMMEE, FLA – For the first time this season, Lake Erie College (2-3) did not win the opening game of the day as they fell to Bellarimine University (9-4), 11-0, in five innings at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
Bellarimine struck early before Lake Erie could record an out as the first two runners reached base and Lauren Summe hit a three-run blast. The Knights added a solo blast later in the inning.
Bellarmine added a solo run in the second and really broke through in the fourth inning. Using seven hits, the Knights struck for six runs to take an 11-0 advantage.
On the mound, freshman Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio/Brookside), who entered the game having not allowed an earned run in nine innings, was tagged for nine runs, all earned, on 10 hits.
Lake Erie had two hits as junior outfielder Haley Rathge (Edon, Ohio/Napoleon) and freshman first baseman Jennifer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) each singled with junior catcher Megan Foley (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) reaching base as well on a hit by pitch.
The Green and White will be back in action at 3:00 p.m. as they take on Slippery Rock University.
