In its first game as a member of the GLIAC, the Lake Erie College softball team (5-9, 0-2 GLIAC) fell to Ferris State University (5-9, 2-0 GLIAC), 7-2 and 7-1, in a cross-divisional twinbill.
In game one, Lake Erie plated its runs in the second and fifth innings, as both were unearned. The score was knotted at 1-1 after three frames when the Bulldogs struck for four runs in the top of the fourth, spurred by a three run home run. Ferris State added two more in the fifth and the Storm was unable to plate any more than the solo run in the bottom half of that frame despite seven hits and three Bulldog errors.
Senior left fielder Danielle Finkler (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) kept her hot season going in the first game, going three-of-three with a run scored. Junior outfielder Haley Rathge (Edon, Ohio/Napoleon) added the other run and a pair of hits and junior catcher Megan Foley (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and freshman first baseman Jeniffer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) each doubled.
Freshman Sara Shields (Randolph, Ohio/Waterloo) got the start and lasted four innings, allowing five runs while striking out five.
In game two, Lake Erie outhit Ferris St., 10-8, but could not capitalize on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs scored one in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Lake Erie lone run came in the sixth inning, on a solo home run from senior third baseman Brittany Sostre (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge).
Freshman designated hitter Juliana Brotzman (Madison, Ohio/Madison) was three-of-four and junior shortstop Lindsay Pennell (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) added a pair of hits.
