Storm Softball Shows Support with Teal-to-Heal Weekend

PAINESVILLE, OHIO - The Lake Erie College softball team is supporting a friend in need as it holds Teal-to-Heal at this weekend's (Apr. 9-10) games against the University of Findlay.

Teal-to-Heal is an effort to support Julie Hanczar, a 17-year old Pittsburgh native who is still critically hospitalized after she was involved in a life-threatening car crash on March 12.  The Teal-to-Heal program was developed by her fellow high school students at West Allegheny High School in Imperial, Pa., and the Lake Erie softball team is doing its part to support the cause.

"Julie is a great person and friend and it was devastating when I found out about the crash," said sophomore pitcher Lyndsie Delprato (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry), a friend of Julie's and the organizer of this weekend's effort.  "When I told the team about what happened they were all for doing something to support her fight."

The team will wear teal bracelets and other accessories, Julie's favorite color, for this weekend's games.  All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear teal (or blue) as well to show their support as well wishes and other footage from the weekend will be sent to Julie following the games.

Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. with Sunday's twinbill slated for a noon first pitch.
