PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Eight errors in a doubleheader against the University of Findlay (16-13, 7-7 GLIAC) were too much for Lake Erie College (5-26, 2-12 GLIAC) to overcome as it fell, 8-0 in six innings and 10-4 at Anderson Field in Findlay, Ohio.
Errors particularly did in game one starter, sophomore Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio/Brookside). Ondercin allowed seven runs over 4.1 innings but just one was earned. Findlay plated two runs in the second inning then five more in the fourth inning. A sixth inning run against junior Lyndsie Delprato (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) ended the game early.
Sophomore catcher Juliana Brotzman (Madison, Ohio/Madison) accounted for both of Lake Erie's hits in the game.
In game two, Brotzman continued slugging with two more hits including a double and two runs batted in. She was joined in the middle of the order by senior Megan Foley (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), who went four-for-four in the game with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. Freshman Maddi Klemp (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) had Lake Erie's other hit, bringing in sophomore Becca Havrilla (Willowick, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin). She also scored in the contest.
Findlay opened the scoring with a run in the first of senior Sam Ronde (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) but Klemp's single knotted the score in the bottom of the second. The Oilers ran away with the game with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Lake Erie's four-game set at Findlay wraps up tomorrow with a pair of contests beginning at 1:00 p.m.
