KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Lake Erie College softball team was unable to come away with a win on opening day, falling to the University of Indianapolis, 17-3, and Fayetteville State University, 8-4, at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Indianapolis (12-2) got off to a fast start in the opening game, taking a 6-0 advantage after the first two innings. The Storm (0-2) got on the board in the third inning when Chelsey Bleck (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) batted in Amber Dowen (New Lyne, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley). Indianapolis' offense continued to prosper, producing nine runs in the fourth and fifth, to lock-up in the game in five innings. Courtney Hawk (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) produced a run off Jennifer Gratz's (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) double in the fourth and Bleck scored off a Hawk single in the fifth to round out the scoring for the Storm.

Fayetteville State scored the first run of the game in the second inning. The Storm answered the following inning when a Mackenzie Quinn (Ypsilanti, Mich./Milan) single scored Kyleah Burton-Smiles (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) but Fayetteville State regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame. Neither team scored from that point till the bottom of the sixth when Fayetteville State scored six runs. The Storm rallied in the top of the seventh. A Quinn single knocked in Burton-Smiles for a second time to start the scoring. Meredith Scholle's (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) double scored Maddi Klemp (Akron, Ohio/Coventry). Quinn came home on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 8-4, but the Storm were unable to complete the late rally.
