Storm Fall to St. Cloud State and Wheeling Jesuit

KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Lake Erie College softball team was unable to come away a win on the final day of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., falling to Saint Cloud State University, 2-1, in 10 innings and Wheeling Jesuit University, 9-1.

Saint Cloud State scored the game's first run in the bottom of third. The Storm (2-8) answered in the top of the fourth. Maddi Klemp (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) started the inning with a single and was moved to third on a Courtney Hawk (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) hit. Meredith Scholle (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) singled to left field to drive in Klemp to tie the game at one.

The teams were unable to get on the board the rest of regulation as the game went into extra innings for the first time this season for the Storm. Saint Cloud State was able to reach home in the bottom of the tenth off of a fielding error to wrap-up the marathon game. 

Hawk led the Storm with with two hits while Klemp, Schollle and Jeniffer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) recorded a hit apiece. Scholle had the lone RBI for the Storm.

The Storm fell to Wheeling Jesuit 9-1 later in the second game of the day. Klemp started the game with a lead-off triple in the bottom of the first. Scholle knocked Klemp in on a sacrifice as the Storm took a 1-0 lead. That was the only run allowed by Wheeling Jesuit as the responded the following inning with three runs en route to the win.

Gratz led the way with two hits while Klemp and Hawk recorded one apiece. Once again, Scholle had the lone RBI for the Storm. 

The Storm are off until March 21 when they host Mercyhurst University at home.
