Eagles soar in windswept wins over LEC

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Lake Erie dropped both ends of a home doubleheader on Thursday, losing to the Ashland Eagles by scores of 7-2 and 11-3.

The Eagles (17-10, 6-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) outhit the Storm, 28-11, over the two games at Bob Jones Field. Ashland second baseman Cayla Seidle went a combined 7-for-9 with eight RBIs on a windy afternoon in Painesville, Ohio.

Game 1
An Elizabeth Karako double tied the score, 1-1, in the third, but the Eagles went on to plate six runs the rest of the way in a 7-2 victory.

Amanda Anderson started for Lake Erie (4-21, 1-13) and went the distance, allowing seven runs on 15 hits and four walks. Seidle had two doubles and a home run in a six-RBI game. The Eagles went 6-of-14 with runners in scoring position.

Game 2
A three-run third – punctuated by a Jeniffer Gratz home run – put Lake Erie up, 3-1, after two-and-a-half innings. But again AU would control things late in the game. The Eagles scored one in the third, seven in the fourth and two in the fifth in pulling off a run-rule victory.

Storm errors loomed large in a decisive Ashland fourth that saw 12 Eagle batters come to the plate. LEC finished with six errors in the game, which marks the Storm's most in a single game this season. The Eagles again went 6-for-14 with runners in scoring position, as they pulled off the two-game sweep.
