PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was defeated today (April 17th) by Saignaw Valley in both games of the double header. With the losses the Storm falls to 8-18 overall and 2-12 in the conference, and with the wins Saginaw Valley improves to 20-15 overall and 10-4 in conference play.
The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 advantage. Saginaw Valley added two more runs in the second. The Cardinals put up four runs in the third to take a 9-0 advantage. The Storm scored in the bottom of the third when Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty) hit a solo homerun to left. Later in the inning Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) hit a double to the right field gap to score Jessacca Gironda (Kent State). Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled through the right side to drive in Hajnosz, to make the score 9-3. In the bottom of the sixth Lindsay Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) scored on a passed ball, to make the score 9-4 in favor of Saginaw Valley. The Cardinals maintained the 9-4 advantage and won the game.
In game two Saginaw Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. The Cardinals added five runs in the fourth to make the 7-0. Saginaw Valley scored in the fifth and, won 8-0 in five innings.
Katarina Davis (Independence, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) pitched in relief in both games for the Storm. Davis pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowed two runs on five hits. Davis had three strike outs and two walks on the day.
Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow (April 18th) when they host Tiffin with the first game of the double header starting at 1 P.M.
