Storm Falls to Findlay

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was defeated in both games of their double header today (April 22nd) by Findlay.  With the losses the Storm falls to 11-23 overall and 5-17 in the conference, and with the wins the Oilers improve to 25-17 overall and 13-8 in conference play. 

In game one, Findlay opened the scoring with a run in the second.  The Oilers added three runs in the third, to take a 4-0 advantage.  The Storm added a run when Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) reached on a fielder's choice, and drove in Jessacca Gironda (Kent State), to make the score 4-1.  Findlay scored a run in the fourth.  The Storm answered back when Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) opened the bottom of the fourth with a triple, and was later driven in by a Kaylie Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch) single.  Findlay added a run in the sixth and seventh, to take a 7-2 advantage.  The Storm scored in the bottom of the seventh when Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled to drive Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion), but the Oilers held on to win, 7-3. 

In game two, the Oilers scored four runs in the first.  S. Karako hit a solo homerun in the top of the second, and cut the Oilers lead to 4-1.   Findlay added three runs in the second, to make the score 7-1.  The Oilers added three runs in the fourth, to make the score 10-1.  After Birtley and Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) both reached to start the inning Gironda drove in Birtley on a bunt single.  Later in the inning Lewis drove in both Valvoda and Gironda, to make the score 10-4.  The Storm continued to rally when L. Karako doubled to the left center gap to score Lewis.  S. Karako reached on an error and drove in both Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) and L. Karako.  S. Karako was later driven in by Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia), to make the score 10-8 in the top of the fifth.  The Oilers scored three runs in fifth, to make the score 13-8.  Findlay added three runs in the sixth, and won the game 16-8, in six innings.       

Lake Erie will be back in action Friday (April 24th) when they host Lake Superior St., with the first game of the double header starting at 3:30 P.M.
