Storm Ends Florida with a 7-5 Record

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lake Erie College softball team finished their week in Florida with a loss against Lock Haven University, 2-1.  With the loss the Storm falls to 7-5 on the season, which marks the first time the Storm has left Florida with a winning record since transitioning to D-II.   

The Bald Eagles opened the scoring in the first with a pair of runs.  The Storm cut into the lead when Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled home Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion) to make the score, 2-1 in the fifth.  In the bottom of the seventh Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) singled.  Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Rizzo to second, but the Storm was unable to bring her home and fell, 2-1 to Lock Haven.    

Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty) came in with one out in the second inning and finished the game on the mound for the Storm.  Shevenell pitched five plus scoreless innings while also allowing a total of four runners in five plus innings.  Shevenell struck out seven batters in the game. 

Lake Erie will return to the diamond next Saturday (March 12th) as they travel to take on Fairmont St. and Salem International, in Salem Virginia.
