PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they fell in both games of their double header to Ferris St. University.
The Bulldogs took an early lead in first with a run, to take a 1-0 advantage. The Storm responded in the third inning when Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) singled and was later driven in when Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) reached base on a fielder's choice and the Storm tied the game at 1-1. The Bulldogs tacked on a run in the fourth and took a 2-1 advantage. The Storm took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. Birtley and Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion) reached base to start the inning. Later in the inning S. Karako reached on an error and drove home Birtley. The next batter up Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) reached base on an error and drove home both Urgo and S. Karako to give the Storm a 4-2 advantage. The Bulldogs regained the lead with seven runs in the sixth inning. The Storm added two runs in the sixth when S. Karako drove in both Lindsay Valvado (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and Urgo, to make the score 9-6. The Storm was unable to come back and fell 9-6 in game one.
The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game two. The Bulldogs added two runs in the second, and took a 3-0 lead over the Storm. The Bulldogs added four runs in the fifth and took a 7-0 advantage. The Bulldogs won the game with a run in the sixth, and won the game 8-0.
The Storm will be back in action tomorrow (March 26th) when they host Grand Valley St. with the first game of the double header beginning at 1 P.M.
