FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they dropped a pair of games to the University of Findlay.
The Storm and Oilers battled through two scoreless innings to start the game before the Storm broke the scoring drought. Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) and Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) each reached base on an error, which allowed Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) to single and drive home Rizzo. The Oilers bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the third and took a 2-1 advantage. The Storm answered with three runs in the fourth as Darrian Yanek (Youngstown, Ohio / South Range) hit a double and Lindsay Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) each singled to load the bases. Later in the inning Rizzo hit a bases clearing double and gave the Storm a 4-2 lead. The Oilers regained the lead and took a 7-4 advantage. The Oilers won game one 7-4.
The Oilers scored first with three runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Oilers scored a run in the sixth before Yanek responded with a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth for the Storm, to cut the Oilers lead to 4-1. The Oilers added two more runs in the top of the seventh and took a 6-1 lead. The Storm scored a run in the seventh as Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion) singled, and was later driven in by a S. Karako single, but the Storm fell 6-2.
