PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they ended their 2017 season on the road against Walsh.

The Storm dropped game one 2-1 and the nightcap 14-10.

The first game started as a pitcher's duel as the game was scoreless thru the first three innings of play.  Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) was on the mound as she allowed three hits, no walks and had a strikeout thru three innings of work.  The Storm opened the scoring in the top of the fourth when Darrian Yanek (Youngstown, Ohio / South Range) doubled home Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) who doubled to lead off the inning.  The Cavaliers responded in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at one run apiece.  Walsh added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and took a 2-1 lead.  The Cavaliers held on to win game one, 2-1.

The second game started with an offense outburst from the Cavaliers as they scored three in the first and seven in the second to take a 10-0 lead.  The Storm responded when Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) singled to drive in Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) who lead off the inning with a double.  Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) drew a walk which plated Yanek.  The next batter up, Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) grounded out but drove in Nicole Grimmett (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) and Lake Erie cut the lead to 10-3.  Walsh tacked on a run in the top of the third and took an 11-3 advantage.  Grimmett provided the Storm with a spark in the bottom of the third with a two run double that scored both Hajnosz and E. Karako, to make the score, 11-5.  Later in the inning, a Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) single plated Grimmett and cut the Cavalier lead to 11-6. Walsh added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth, pushing the lead to eight runs. Lake Erie attempted a late charge in the final two innings. In the sixth, Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled home Rizzo and Ka. Peacock. Karako scored on a fielder's choice by Hajnosz later in the frame.  One inning later, the Storm got a run across on a fielder's choice by Kr. Peacock. The Storm fell 14-10 in game two.
