Storm Splits on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fl. – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they split their double header.  The Storm was victorious in game one as they defeated Northern State, 9-1 and fell in game two to the University of Missouri St. Louis, 9-1.   

The Storm grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) got the inning started with a two out walk, and the next batter up Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) tripled down the right field line to score S. Karako.  After a scoreless second inning the Wolves tied the game with a run in the top of the third inning.  Lake Erie loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning when Chloe Allen (Lebanon, Ohio / Lebanon) walked, S. Karako singled, and Hajnosz was hit by a pitch.  Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) reached on an error and drove home Allen, to give the Storm a2-1 edge.  The Storm added to their lead in the fourth as Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) was hit by a pitch to lead off and Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) walked.  The next batter up Payton Brownlee (Newark, Ohio / Granville) singled to right and plated Birtley.  The next batter up Allen doubled to the left centerfield gap and drove home Kr. Peacock and Brownlee, to give the Storm a 5-1 edge.  The big inning continued when S. Karako singled through the right side and plated Allen.  After S. Karako advanced to third she scored on a wild pitch and gave Lake Erie a 7-1 lead.  After a scoreless fifth inning the Storm added to their lead as Doershuk led off the inning by reaching on an error.  The next batter up Ashley Brown (Dayton, Ohio / Carlisle) doubled to the left center gap and advanced Doershuk to third.  Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) reached on an error and plated Doershuk.  Later in the inning Kr. Peacock reached base and drove in Jesse Carpenter (Bainbridge, Ohio / Kenston) who pinch ran for Brown.  The Storm won the game, 9-1 in six innings.  Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) was in the circle in game one for the Storm, as she pitched a complete game, and earned her third win on the season.  Deemer allowed one run, on seven hits, and struck out one batter. 

In game two Lake Erie jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning.  Brownlee led off the game with a single and a sacrifice bunt moved her to second.  A S. Karako single placed runner at the corners and Hajnosz singled home Brownlee, to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.  After a scoreless second and third inning the Tritons tacked on two runs in the fourth and took a 2-1 advantage.  The Tritons ended the game in the fifth with seven runs, and won the game, 9-1. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (March 10) when they travel to Salem, Va. to play with Edinboro, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
