Storm Falls to Walsh

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they were swept by Walsh.  The Storm fell in game one, 5-2 and dropped game two 10-8. 

The Cavaliers grabbed an early lead in the top of the first as they scored a pair of runs.  After a scoreless second inning, the Storm answered with a run in the bottom of the third.  Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) got the inning started with a two out double, and was driven in when Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) reached on an error, to make the score, 2-1 in favor of Walsh.  The Cavaliers tacked on three runs in the fifth and took a 5-1 advantage.  After a scoreless sixth inning, the Storm rallied in the seventh.  Taylor Phillips (Ontario, Canada / John F. Ross) led off the inning with a double to centerfield, and the next batter up Alyssa Johnson (Wickliffe, Ohio / Wickliffe) walked.  Later in the inning, Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled and plated Phillips.  The Storm rally fell short, and the Storm lost 5-2.

The Storm jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first.  Rizzo led off the inning with a single, and a sacrifice bunt from Ka. Peacock moved Rizzo to second.  S. Karako doubled to the left centerfield gap and plated Rizzo, to give Lake Erie a 1-0 edge.  The second inning was scoreless, and the Cavaliers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the third with two runs.  The Storm responded in the bottom of the third to tie the game when Rizzo doubled to centerfield, and later in the inning S. Karako plated Rizzo with a sacrifice fly to left field.  The Cavaliers answered back with seven runs in the fourth to take a 9-2 lead.  Lake Erie tacked on a run the fourth when Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) led off the inning with a walk.  Doershuk advanced to third, and was later driven in by a Johnson single to the shortstop.  Lake Erie continued their comeback in the sixth when Phillips hit a solo homerun to left field.  Later in the inning Ka. Peacock doubled and plated both Johnson and Chloe Allen (Lebanon, Ohio / Lebanon) to make the score, 9-6 in the sixth.  Walsh answered back with a run in the top of the seventh to take a 10-6 edge.  Phillips led off the seventh with a single, and the next batter up Johnson walked.  The runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch, and an Allen ground out plated Phillips.  The next batter up Rizzo hit a sacrifice fly and drove in Johnson.  The Storm was unable to complete the comeback and fell, 10-8.       

Lake Erie will return to the diamond Tuesday (April 10) when they host Ursuline, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
