COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they split their double header with Ohio Dominican. The Storm fell in game one, 1-0, but bounced back in game two and won, 1-0. The Storm defeated a Panthers team that was regionally ranked, and had a 19 game winning streak heading into the double header.
After a scoreless first and second inning, the Panthers scratched across a run in the third and grabbed a 1-0 edge. Ashley Brown (Dayton, Ohio / Carlisle) was in the circle as shut the Panthers down for the remainder of the game. The Storm offense was unable to muster a rally and the Storm fell, 1-0. Brown pitched a complete game for Lake Erie as she allowed only one run on four hits, and struck out four batters.
Game two started as a pitcher's duel as Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) was in the circle for the Storm. Deemer cruised thru the first four innings, as the game remained tied at zero. The Storm tacked on a run the fifth when Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) started a two out rally with a single. The next batter up Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) doubled to left centerfield and drove in Rizzo, to give the Storm a 1-0 edge. One run was all Deemer needed as she only allowed one hit over the final three innings. Deemer pitched a complete game shutout, as she allowed four hits, and struck out six batters.
