XENIA, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they were defeated by Cedarville, 6-3 and Trevecca Nazarene, 13-0. With the losses the Storm has been eliminated from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.
The Yellow Jackets grabbed an early lead with four runs in the first inning. Cedarville tacked on a run in the second and third to take a 6-0 lead into the fourth inning. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Storm cut into the Yellow Jackets lead with three runs. Alyssa Johnson (Wickliffe, Ohio / Wickliffe) singled to lead off the inning, and later in the inning Payton Brownlee (Newark, Ohio / Granville) reached on an error and plated Johnson. After a Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) single gave Lake Erie runners on first and second, Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) ripped a double to right center field and plated both Brownlee and Rizzo. The Storm rally fell short and the Yellow Jackets won, 6-3.
The Storm's second game of the double elimination Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament was against Trevecca Nazarene. The Trojans jumped out to an early lead with an 11 run first inning. Trevecca added a pair of runs in the second to add to their lead. The final three innings of the game were scoreless, as the Storm offense was unable to muster a rally. The Storm fell to the Trojans, 13-0.
