PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College men's track team posted eight top-five finishes and the women's squad added three more on Saturday (Jan. 23) at the annual Baldwin-Wallace College Mid-January Meet in Berea, Ohio.
Freshmen Quinton Harley (Rochester, N.Y./Edison Tech) and Ethan Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) won the 500-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles, respectively, with Harley clocking a time of 1:07.67 and Snyder finishing in 8.10 in the finals. Freshman Chris Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) also placed in the 500-meters, finishing fourth in 1:09.45.
Sophomore Mike Gritz (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) placed fifth in the weight throw with a school-record toss of 45' 1/4".
In addition, the 4x200 relay team of Snyder, junior Rudy Glenn (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) and freshmen Jacob Nicol (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) and Donta Covington (Akron, Ohio/North) finished second with a time of 1:33.46. Freshman Eric Klucar (Medina, Ohio/Highland) was second in the pole vault, clearing 13' 1/4".
On the women's side, Freshman Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.89. She teamed with classmates Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunsiwck), Andrea Boyd (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) and Sammie Smith (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) to win the 4x200 relay in 1:51.19, nearly two seconds faster than the second-place team.
The 4x400 relay team of Smith, Bednar, freshman Leah Jones (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) and sophomore Allison Wright (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) also ran strong, finishing second with a time of 4:12.79.
The teams are in action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30, at the Findlay Classic.
