PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie College track teams competed in the Division II Team Challenge and the Findlay Open on Feb. 4-5 in Findlay, Ohio.
Freshman Chris Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) raced
to a 7.00-second mark in the 60-meter dash, setting a new school
record in the event for the second time in two weeks. He finished
ninth in the event in the Division II Challenge. Burrows also
finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.69 seconds,
which is the second-best mark in Lake Erie history.
The men's 4x400 relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 3:25.92, while freshman Quinton Harley (Rochester, N.Y./Edison Tech) placed 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.24 seconds as the only other Storm athlete to finish in the top 10 at the D-II Challenge.
At the Findlay Open on the women's side, freshman Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.88 meters. She was also seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.23 seconds, good for second in school history.
Freshman Samantha Smith (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) was ninth in the 400-meter dash as one of four Lake Erie runners who placed in the top 22. Joining her were senior Natalia Bartula (Oakville, Ont./Holy Trinity Catholic), freshman Ember Ryan (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Fairbanks) and sophomore Cierra Hicks (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Richmond Heights).
On the men's side at the Findlay Open, the 4x400 relay team placed fifth. That team consisted of freshman Isaac Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail), junior Jason Vitek (Brookpark, Ohio/Brookpark), sophomore Nouri Stokes (Dayton, Ohio/Jefferson) and freshman Devin O'Neill (Concord, Ohio/Mentor).
Snyder finished eighth in the high jump at 1.78 meters. Freshman Eric Klucar (Medina, Ohio/Highland) was also eighth in the pole vault with a 4.30-meter mark.
Freshman Donta Covington (Akron, Ohio/North) placed ninth in the 60-meter dash at the Findlay Open with a time of 7.18 seconds.
The Storm returns to the track for the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday (Feb. 13) at Bowling Green State University.
