PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Headed by freshman hurdler Andrea Boyd (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford), the Lake Erie College men's and women's track teams posted seven top-three finishes at the Mount Union College Open on Saturday (April 10) in Alliance, Ohio.
Boyd won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.34 seconds and also took third in the 200-meter dash (26.62). Freshman Sammie Smith (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) placed fourth in the women's 400-meter dash, nearly breaking the minute mark in a school-record time of 1:00.74.
Smith then teamed with classmate Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and sophomores Allison Wright (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and Stephanie Rogers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) to finish second in the 4x400-meter relay, beating the two-week old school record by three seconds (4:03.16).
Sophomore Cierra Hicks (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Richmond Heights) finished fifth in the 200 (26.83) and was part of the scoring 4x100-meter relay team (50.58) while Wright also scored in the 400-meters.
Bednar earned a third-place spot in the long jump, clearing 17 feet with a leap of 5.31 meters, also a school record. Rogers also scored in the high jump (1.52 meters).
On the men's side, the 4x100-meter relay team of freshmen Quinton Harley (Rochester, N.Y./Edison Tech), Ethan Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail), Chris Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) and sophomore Joe Lockard (Columbus, Ohio/Circleville) won the event in a school-best 42.55 seconds and the 4x400 team of Snyder, Burrows, Isaac Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) and Jason Vitek (Brookpark, Ohio/Midpark) finished second in 3:20.48.
The other top performance on the track was Issac Snyder's fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (57.37 seconds). Harley scored in the 800-meters (1:59.83) as did freshman Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) in the 1,500-meters (4:10.30) and classmate Nathan Fox (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Harley) in the 110-meter hurdles (16.59)
In the field events, freshman Eric Klucar (Medina, Ohio/Highland) placed second in the pole vault (4.61 meters). Fox scored in the triple jump and John Hokavar (Perry, Ohio/Perry) and Wade Bistor (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) also scored in the discus and javelin throws, respectively.
The teams will travel to Athens, Ohio next weekend for the annual All-Ohio Championships at Ohio University Friday and Saturday, April 16-17.
