PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Sophomore Cameron Whitner (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and junior Joe Lockard (Columbus, Ohio/Circleville) won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, respectively, as Lake Erie College sent a partial squad to compete at the 2011 Bill Van Horne Invitational hosted by Wheeling Jesuit University at Wheeling, W. Va.
Lake Erie finished 10th of 23 teams on the men's side and 12th of 23 on the women's.
Lockard ran the 200-meter in 23.13, which won by less than one hundredth of a second, Whitner ran 11.22 in the finals after qualifying in 11.11.
Sophomore Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde) also logged a top five finish as he finished fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:29.60.
On the women's side, junior Kaitlyne Perrill (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley) finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.95. In the high jump, Lake Erie had two women tie for sixth as junior Stephanie Rogers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and freshman Katherine Davis (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge), clearing 1.50 meters.
