Bednar and Dudley Jump Past Outdoor Provisional Standards

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Freshman indoor All-American Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) and sophomore Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) reached NCAA Outdoor provisionally qualifying standards in the high jump and long jump, respectively, on Saturday (April 2) to highlight the Lake Erie College track and field teams performance at the Centre College Invitational in Danville, Ky.

As a team, the Storm men placed third of 15 squads while the women were fifth of 13 overall.

Dudley won the high jump, clearing 6' 10 ¾" (2.10 meters), which was directly midway between the provisional and automatically qualifying marks.  His jump was both a school and meet record.

Bednar meanwhile, leaped 18' 8" and placed second and broke her own school record, clearing the provisional standard by an inch-and-one-half.  Her jump was made more impressive by strong wind gusts of up to 20 mph which made for a stern challenge for jumpers and throwers.  She also posted  top-five finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes on the day.

The teams combined for 21 top five finishes in the event and set two other school records on the day. Sophomore Andrea Boyd (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) posted her best time in the 200-meter dash, 25.84 seconds, to finish second in the event.  On the men's side, sophomore distance runner Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde) took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an LEC-best time of 10:03.60, just ahead of classmate Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North).

Sophomore Eric Klucar (Medina, Ohio/Highland) set a meet record and finished first in the pole vault, clearing 14' 2 ¾".  Sophomore All-American Ethan Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) had a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash (49.36 seconds) and was one of three Storm sprinters to place in the top seven of the 200-meters, along with classmate Cameron Whitner (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and twin brother and Indoor All-American Isaac Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail).

In addition to Boyd in the 200, the women had five other second-place finishes Saturday, including one be her in the 110-meter hurdles.  Bednar was second in the 100 (12.75 seconds), junior Allison Wright (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) was runner-up in the 400-meters (1:00.51) and freshman Katherine Davis (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) tied for second in the high jump (4' 9 ¾").  The 4x100-meter relay team also had a second-place run with a time of 48.97 seconds.

The Storm is in Alliance, Ohio next Saturday, April 9, for the Kevin Lucas Invitational at the University of Mount Union.
