PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College women's track and field team set a pair of school records and recorded a couple of first-place finishes in limited action at the Ashland University Twi-Light Meet on Friday night (April 22).
Junior Stephanie Rogers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and freshman Tiffany Turner (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) broke their own school records in the high jump and javelin, respectively. Rogers cleared 5' 5" to finish third in the event and beat her previous personal best throw by two inches. Turner meanwhile, threw the javelin 88' 1", become the first Storm thrower to clear 88'.
In addition, sophomore Andrea Boyd (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53 seconds in the finals. Her time of 12.38 in the preliminary round was just .01 off her school record time. Classmate Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) finished second to Boyd in the prelims, but did not run in the event finals.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Boyd, Bednar, Whitney Johnson (Oakwood Village, Ohio/Bedford) and Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) won their event and recorded their second fastest time of the season, 48.12 seconds.
The Ashland meet kicked off a busy weekend for the Storm track and field teams. Most of the squads will compete at the Baldwin-Wallace College Sparky Adams Invitational on Saturday, April 23, while some of the Lake Erie elite runners will compete at the Ohio State University Jesse Owens Classic on Sunday, April 24, in Columbus.
